Former Asheville City Councilman Bryan Freeborn says he’s not running for Asheville City Council next year. The rumor apparently started when local talk radio show host Matt Mittan said something to that effect on his show on Thursday.
Here’s Freeborn on his Facebook page:
BTW…I am not actually running for any office in 2011. You are too much Matt Mittan.
We are actually moving away from Asheville this summer.
Freeborn was appointed to fill out a term a few years back, then lost the next election narrowly to current Asheville City Councilman Bill Russell.
But since we’re on the topic, let’s review: Russell and fellow council members Jan Davis and Brownie Newman will be up for re-election next year. Until I hear otherwise, I’m assuming all three will be seeking re-election.
Other than that, the only other potential candidate I’ve heard is local businesswoman and progressive talk radio show co-host Lesley Groetsch. She told me back in September that she was considering her first run for public office.
What are you hearing?

Things got better when Freeborn was on council. Now they are slowly crumbling away again. We were lucky to have a real person on council.
Freeborn's a vandal and added no value to council.
