RiverLink’s second thoughts on a nasty letter

After we posted a riveting letter exchange between Karen Cragnolin of RiverLink and Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower, everbody picked up on the story. WLOSers did a story on it last week. And now today, the local newspaper weighs in with its story.

Seems the nasty exchange was all a big misunderstanding. From the newspaper story:

RiverLink Chairman Richard T. Hall said Friday the Aug. 1 letter was the result of “a misunderstanding and lack of communication of the city telling us what they were doing.”
The group thought the cars were driving at high speeds around the track, Hall said. RiverLink board members later learned cars were taking slow, symbolic laps, he said.

Ummm, OK. So despite all the publicity and coverage, RiverLink board members are just now figuring out that nobody was zooming around the old track? Good grief. Interesting to note, though, that RiverLink’s backpeddling falls short of apology.
