River Arts District motorcycle shop seeks public’s help after suffering water damage

Hugh Owings, owner of Hugh’s Handbuilt in Asheville’s River Arts District, is asking the public for $5,000 to help him rebuild his water damaged shop. From Hugh’s Handbuilt on gofundme.com:

For that that don’t know – we had a sprinkler pipe fail late last Thursday night at the shop. It filled the office ceiling with water until it couldn’t handle the weight, and collapsed – ruining all of our office computers, printers, about 50% of our inventory and all of my baby girl (Rebecca) stuff that I keep at the shop. You see, without my office and without the things for her, I cannot work at the shop. I bring my baby girl to the shop everyday, and keep her safe and sound in the office as I work.
We have always been a small operation, and as such – I do Daddy Daycare each day while my wife goes to work.

The office is a total loss, we are hoping to strip all of the drywall this week and insulation, and start the rebuilding process. We could use building materials or funds to help get those as well.

We lost a ton of inventory, as well as all of our packing/shipping supplies and other stuff that comes with running our business.

To make matters worse, we tried to get flood insurance about a year ago, but since we are in the flood plain, it was astronomically high.

Help Hugh if you can. Background on Hugh’s Handbuilt.

Did you read what happened? Nothing to do with being near the river.

Busted sprinkler/pipe is not covered by flood insurance, but by comprehensive.

A broken pipe loss would not fall under your Flood Insurance anyway. That’s if the river floods. Contact your Business Insurance carrier. Your property insurance would cover any damage from a broken pipe and/or sprinkler loss.

you’d have to be a complete fool to open a business in a flood zone near the river. it’s common sense

Did you bother to read the handful of lines above?

Good luck to these folks!

It was a sprinkler pipe, not the river flood (did you read the article?)

But I do hope that insurance can cover some of the loss.
