Press release from the French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization:
DRAFT ECONOMIC STIMULUS PROJECT REQUEST LISTS FOR THE FRENCH BROAD RIVER METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION REGION
COMMENT PERIOD OPEN: The public is invited to review the list of potential economic stimulus projects compiled by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the supplemental list prepared by the French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization (FBRMPO). Projects identified on these lists were chosen because of their readiness to begin construction within the timeframe specified by the stimulus bill. Some, but not all, of these projects will be funded as part of the federal economic stimulus package. All potential projects are being published for public comment at this time in order to allow the MPO to act quickly if any of them are chosen for economic stimulus funding in the future. THE COMMENT PERIOD ENDS MARCH 30, 2009.
THE PROPOSED STIMULUS PROJECT LISTS ARE AVAILABLE on the internet at www.fbrmpo.org, at the Land-of-Sky Regional Council offices, and at the offices of Buncombe County, Haywood County, Henderson County, Asheville, Black Mountain, Biltmore Forest, Canton, Clyde, Flat Rock, Fletcher, Hendersonville, Laurel Park, Maggie Valley, Mills River, Montreat, Waynesville, Weaverville, and Woodfin. Copies are also available at public libraries.
PUBLIC HEARING: On March 31, 2009, the FBRMPO Transportation Advisory Committee will be considering modifications to the Transportation Improvement Program in order to expedite projects which receive first round stimulus funding. Comments will also be taken on any other projects on the published lists. The meeting will take place at 12:10 p.m. at the Land-of-Sky Regional Council, 339 New Leicester Highway, Suite 140, Asheville, NC 28806. The meeting is open to the public, and the public may comment at the meeting.
ACCOMODATIONS WILL BE MADE for document review and comment or for participation in the meeting for persons with disabilities, persons dependent on public transportation which does not serve the meeting space, or for persons who need a translator to participate, provided that a request is received at least 48 hours in advance.
