Taking into account that Bulldog is an avowed Dookie, I decided to go ahead and let him have his say here on Rashad, because I think he’s right:
I’m getting a little weary of athletes like Rashad McCants whining about their “struggles” and not “getting respect” and being “misunderstood.” McCants has received privileged treatment since he was old enough to dunk a basketball, including the ability to leave public schools (Erwin High School) for a private academy that nurtured his grades and his basketball before he had his choice of more than a hundred universities for a free college education. He chose Carolina, where he was accorded the special treatment of a star athlete while he developed his game. Now he stands to become an instant millionaire before the age of 25 with a projected first-round NBA contract.
So help me out here. Where was the “struggle”? When was he not accorded his due “respect”? How has he been “misunderstood”?
Here’s what I understand:
– McCants does not like coaches telling him what to do, such as play within a team concept.
– McCants does not like not having the ball, such as when you have to defend against the guy who does.
– McCants believes playing within the Carolina system is “like being in prison.”
– McCants does like to taunt opponents, such as his stares at the opposition’s bench and his hand gestures (slashing the throat) when he makes a shot.
Good luck with the draft, Rashad. I just hope the team drafting you has enough money to satisfy your ego and its definition of “respect.” And that you have a character transformation before you turn into another Joseph Forte.
