Raleigh News & Observer: DMV admits mistake in refusing Asheville woman voter ID

Share

The Raleigh News & Observer reports that the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles admitted it wrongly turned away an Asheville woman who was seeking a voter ID. From the story:

She carried a pile of papers, hoping to satisfy North Carolina’s lengthy documentation requirements for ID cards. DMV-issued driver’s licenses and non-driver IDs are among six types of photo identification cards that will be accepted for voting, starting with the primary election scheduled for March 15.

“It became kind of an exciting thing to do, and we went to the DMV on Monday – and got totally deflated,” said her son, Ed Bowser.

On her 1929 Pennsylvania birth certificate, she was identified as Reba Witmer Miller. She took her husband’s surname when they married in 1950, and the change was reflected on her Social Security card and her expired New Hampshire driver’s license: Reba M. Bowser.

All this was not sufficient proof that she was really, truly Reba Miller Bowser.

This is not a political issue, it is the local administration gone viral and greedy.
I am the target of a similar harassment tactic and I will go public also.
These abuses of elderly citizens must stop.

omg how the NC leftwing media has been running this in every available space as if it’s SO damn horrible !!!

It is NOT horrible! Better the situation get handled the way intended than be disappointed at the polls ! ! !

Anyone who wants to vote and does not have an ID either needs to act now, or forget about voting. It’s just that simple…(does not apply to the millions who refuse to vote and stay off the radar totally!)
