The Under the Dome column in the Raleigh newspaper had this following tidbit from a recent poll, for what it’s worth. It includes several WNC politicians:
Beverly Perdue and Bill Graham are ahead in a new poll.
The survey by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling www.publicpolicypolling.com was done two days after her official gubernatorial campaign kickoff in New Bern. It shows the lieutenant governor with a lead of 39 percent to state Treasurer Richard Moore’s 29 percent.
Thirty-two percent were undecided.
In the Republican primary, Graham has 19 percent, followed by state Sen. Fred Smith with 17 percent. Former Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr was at 11 percent.
Fifty-four percent were undecided.
The survey of 621 likely Democratic primary voters and 755 likely Republican voters was taken on Oct. 3. The margins of error are plus or minus 3.9 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively.
The survey also showed state Sen. Walter Dalton leading the lieutenant governor’s Democratic primary with 12 percent, followed by Canton Mayor Pat Smathers at 8 percent, Durham attorney Hampton Dellinger at 7 percent and Winston-Salem City Councilman Dan Besse at 6 percent.
Two thirds of those surveyed were undecided.
On the Republican treasurer’s race, state Rep. Bill Daughtridge was leading with 20 percent, with state Rep. Dale Folwell at 13 percent, and 67 percent undecided.
On the Democratic treasurer’s race, state Sen. Janet Cowell was tied with Buncombe County Commissioner David Young at 14 percent. Raleigh attorney Michael Weisel had 5 percent and 67 percent were undecided.
