UPDATED: Driver in fatal downtown crash Weds had suspended license, faced DWI charges

Updated Friday at 3:45:  The Citizen-Times writes that the driver in Wednesday’s fatal crash that that killed a three-year-old, David Nathan Jones, had a suspended license and faced DWI charges at the time of the wreck. The child killed in the wreck was Jones daughter, Madelyn.

The crash Wednesday afternoon also injured Jones and two city employees who were struck when they were hit by the car in the parking lot of a city public works building on South Charlotte Street. Bobby Edwards, 41, was listed in good condition in intensive care at Mission Hospital. Ernie Huffman, 56, suffered minor injuries.

Updated Thursday at 11:16 a.m.: According to WLOS, the three-year-old child involved in the wreck has died.

Unconfirmed information from Facebook is that the driver was prone to seizures. Looks like it was a father and daughter in the car.

A bizarre wreck Wednesday has severely injured a City of Asheville worker and a child.

According to police, a vehicle near the Orange Peel drove through the intersection of Biltmore and Hilliard, crashing through brush and going over two embankments at a high rate of speed, going airborne, and crashing from above into the parking lot of the Public Works building on Charlotte Street.

It isn’t yet known why the driver ran off the road. At this writing, a child who was inside the out-of-control car and a city of Asheville worker are both in Mission Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
