On the road with HK

Asheville’s HK Edgerton has made a cottage industry out of his support, as an African-American man, of the Confederate flag. On Sunday, he stood along Patton Avenue near a giant NASCAR trailer that sold gear and proclaimed the history of racing. You’d think Edgerton would be hoping for a little synergy there, but he was actually protesting NASCAR. That’s because NASCAR banned the Confederate flag about three years ago, as it plotted to clean up its image and take racing international. Edgerton explained that the flag he was waving was one specially designed – by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, I think – to support the racing community and the Confederate flag.
