Heather, Heather, Heather
WLOSers brought us just a short note that our most favorite former teacher’s assistant has gotten into trouble again. If you’ll recall, she was busted earlier this year for having sex with an 18-year-old student.
WLOSers said that Heather was one of four people recently arrested for stealing stuff off of construction sites out in Candler. Biltmore Lake to be specific.
This news crushes us, Heather. We know you’re a good person. You’ve just gotten in with a bad crowd. Please pull yourself together and be careful. Because, as one Ashvegas loyal reader has already noted, you’ve already stolen our hearts.
High school drama: naughty bits on cell phones
Sex reporter Michelle Boudin got us all revved up over a story about Smoky Mountain High School in Jackson County being abuzz over nekkid photos of a female student that were making the rounds of students’ cell phones.
Here’s what Michelle says happened, after talking to some students and cops: A girl uses her cell phone camera to snap a shot of herself naked in the mirror. She sends it to a guy friend, but the guy friend was asleep and his other buddies got hold of the phone, saw the naughty bits, and started sending the pic out.
Boudin says the photo has been forwarded hundreds of times. Well, we haven’t gotten it, dammit. The picture became such a hot commodity that high school officials confiscated students phones to see just how many students had gotten it, and in the course of their search, came up with even more saucy photos, including a girl’s “clothed bottom,” Boudin said. Well, I declare!
A mom of a student says that’s just kids. They’ll do what they’re gonna do we these new fangle photo phones and such. Meanwhile, police are checking it out but don’t think there’s any criminal wrongdoing.
Walsh on Woodring
John Walsh of America’s Most Wanted fame went on Larry King Live the other night and talked smack about John “Woody” Woodring, the scumbag wanted for killing his estranged wife in a Jackson County domestic abuse shelter.
Walsh said Woodring is a “poster boy” for how we don’t take shelter for battered women seriously in this country. Woodring is on the run and could be anywhere, Walsh says.
Bellamy says she’s recevied threats
Ashvegas Mayor Terry Bellamy says shes received death threats, WLOSer Carolyn Ryan told us.
It all started after City Council voted recently to raise the rent that the Army Reserve Center on Louisiana Ave. pays the city. The rent went up about $50,000 a year, WLOSers said. The Tribune, a local weekly, ran with that story big, with a headline something like “City screws the troops,” noting that we’re at war and we don’t need to be raising the rent.
Bellamy said that after that story ran, she’s received several vicious e-mails, including death threats. The Ashvegas police say they’re taking this seriously and will investigate.

Hit-and-run victim was an organ donor
That’s what Kassandra “Special K” Pride told us Friday. Karen Herndon, 19, was hit by a vehicle on Merrimon Avenue and killed, “but a part of her lives on,” Special K said. The dead girl’s father, and a hospital official, said one person got a liver, one person got a kidney and another person got a kidney and pancreas.
Special K told us that you can choose if you want to be an organ donor at the DMV.
In other news…
There was a plane crash in Statesville that killed a couple of people… The awful, rainy weather Friday cancelled a bunch of high school football games. Why, you ask? Because high school football these days is all about money, and if there’s rainy weather, fewer people will come out, which means less revenue for the sports programs… A cyclist was hit by a truck on Patton Avenue just before 5 p.m. and is in bad condition. There was poor visibility and the biker wasn’t wearing reflective clothing, so there probably won’t be charges… First Lady Laura Bush gave Ashvegas an award for being a Preserve America Community… People in Lake Lure are worried that a 1970s law could prevent people from offering vacation rentals in residential neighborhoods. Town officials say they’re not enforcing the law, according to WLOSer Jeremy Butterfield.… And former employees of Trevi restaurant say they still haven’t been paid. The restaurant closed after a worker tested positive for Hep. A a couple of months ago and declared bankruptcy.

Ash,
Bonehead play is never used in the past tense (boneheaded). It is staight-up bonehead no matter how you us it.

And they’ll be available through our Web site at http://www.mhc.edu, beginning Monday. Should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 tickets available to the general public, after students, faculty and staff received and/or purchased ours.
