Obama supporters to canvass neighborhoods

Press release here:

On Friday, Organizing for America (OFA), the grassroots and volunteer network which came together to help elect President Obama in November, will launch a nationwide canvassing effort in support of President Obama’s proposed budget plan. Citizens across North Carolina will canvass their communities to let their friends and neighbors know about the President’s plan to invest in America’s future, improve health care and education, create green jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and cut the deficit in half over the next four years. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have already signaled their support for the Organizing for America Pledge Project – part of an OFA project to identify and mobilize support for the economic vision President Obama outlined in his budget. OFA is also encouraging Americans to call their Members of Congress and urge them to support the plan.

dempol, thank you. Your $.02 makes alot of sense, and is shared by all the Obama supporters at my office. Volunteering politically is my heart but I think im burnt and need a break till the 2010 elections, which will be here before we know it.

What about people who WORK? They will be wasting their time knocking on my door.

I certainly appreciate the energy and spirit of the continued, grassroots effort by supporters of our new president and his proposed budget plan. But I question the judgment of organizers who have decided to knock on doors and make phone calls again, so soon after the presidential campaign. The voting public needs a break from political pushiness, no matter how legitimate the issue. Urging a call to local members of Congress is one thing – a good thing. But I think bothering campaign-weary constituents in their homes is another and could wind-up being detrimental to the cause. As always, just my $0.2.
