Charles Alaric Lord Jr. died on Nov. 16, just three days short of his 96th birthday, according to Lord’s obituary. Aside from a distinguished military career, Lord was well known for carrying on the family business, running Lord’s Drug Store in north Asheville until his retirement in the late 1960s.

From Lord’s obituary in the Asheville Citizen-Times:

Leaving the service at the end of the war as a 1st Lt, he settled back in Asheville where he met and married his best friend’s sister, Margaret Dellinger Lord (d.2002). After the death of his father in 1948, Charles joined his father’s business, Lord’s Drug Store, and ran it until he retired in the late 1960’s.

Many people still remember his care and personal touch for customers, opening after hours or extending credit when needed to help people to get the medicines that they needed. He then returned to his true love, mechanical design and fabrication, and ran a home business of repairing and fabricating equipment for local businesses, notably Citizen’s Hardware and Bob Lawrence Power Equipment.
