From loyal reader Dick:

According to Terri Karlsson, the Tree and Vine, an Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar tasting room, will open Tuesday or Wednesday this week.  They are located at 22 Lodge Street in Biltmore Village.  828-504-4049 for more details.

Thought you’d like to  know about another independent business opening in Asheville.

Thank you and good luck!

First the triple-headed dog bakery of the apocalypse, and now this two-headed horseman of ill tidings.

I wonder what is local about people who move here to open businesses that cater exclusively to tourists and other carpetbaggers.

I was in the Tree and Vine store yesterday and it was packed. As a tourist I was very happy to see and buy local products as well as awesome olive oil.

I went to The Tree and Vine today and was impressed!!!! The dipping herbs are wonderful. Terri and Paul Karlsson will be an asset to our community. Stop by and you will see what I mean. I'm looking forward to many returns.

Actually, this business model is appearing all around the country and becoming very popular. I came across my first one in Hickory NC. If you are not a 'foodie' then it won't make sense to you but there are lots and lots of 'foodies' out there (I am one) and we love these kinds of places. In a recent visit to Olive and Kicking the store was very busy and selling product. The offerings are excellent and the chance to taste before buying is really nice and the prices quite reasonable for the high quality. Don't assume that because it does not interest you that nobody would be interested. I care nothing about sports but many folks do so I would not presume that my lack of interest was representative of others. I do think BV is much more oriented to tourists with $$ to spend than to locals so the 2nd store should do well as a result.

I live, work and play in Asheville, don't have a lot of money, am in my late 30s and try to support as many local businesses in town as I can. Therefore I will not post negative comments and I will wish both of these stores luck and I will visit both as I enjoy good olive oil and aged vinegars.

Wow, and I thought the Olive and Kicking folks were crazy!

Do independently wealthy people really have nothing better to do with their deep pockets and time than start niche businesses that appeal to less than 1% of the local population?

I guess the upside is that, since making money is not really a goal at either of these establishments, the presence of competition is not worrisome.

Been looking for some 12 year aged Balsamic and will stop by next time I'm in that part of town.

Can Asheville really support two oil and vinegar shops so close to each other? Good luck to both!

How's the other one doing? Once you think you have an original idea…

Wow, I was dubious that the community (tourists included) could support *one* of these stores, and now there are two, just a couple of miles apart? I know that BV and downtown are pretty distinct retail hubs, but still . . .
