New faces abound at WLOS

WLOS has a new crop of reporters, including Liz Burch, left, and Karen Zatkulak.

There’s a fairly significant changing of the guard happening at WLOS here in Asheville. The station has hired four new news reporters over the past few months, and word on the street is that sports reporter/anchor Luke Notestine is leaving. Also, Jack Connors, the station’s general manager for the past 13 years, just retired. (Joe Fishleigh, the station’s sales director, has moved into the GM job.)

Here’s a quick run-down of the bunch:

Liz Burch

She spent much of her time there investigating a water contamination crisis there, according the WLOS website. Her first television news reporting job was in Elmira, N.Y. She’s a native of New Jersey. Rekhi started out in January here in Asheville on the night-side crew.

Adriana Mendez

Adriana Mendez is the WLOS evening “traffic anchor,” as well as a reporter. Before moving to Asheville, she worked in Grand Rapids, Mich., as a sports anchor and reporter. She’s also worked as a reporter at KWKT in Waco, Texas. Mendez is a Wisconsin native and graduate of the University of Wisconsin Parkside, located in her hometown of Kenosha.
