A developer is proposing to build two new three-story buildings that each contain 11 one-bedroom apartments in Asheville’s historic Montford neighborhood.
Plans for The Elizabeth call for the demolition of a small, roughly 500-square foot house that was built in 1939 at 25 Elizabeth Place in Montford. Two multifamily structures and a small parking lot with 13 spaces on a lot spanning 23-27 Elizabeth Place near its intersection with Starnes Avenue would replace that small structure, according to the proposal.
The developer is Boulevard Development in Asheville. The architecture company on the project is Row House Architecture.
Asheville’s Historic Resources Commission will have to sign off on the project. The commission was created in 1979 to preserve the historic nature of neighborhood. The commission has 12 members, with six appointed by Asheville City Council and six appointed by the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners.
The Elizabeth proposal is on the agenda for a June 28 meeting of the commission. That meeting is set for 9 a.m. in the north conference room on the first floor of the Asheville City Building at 70 Court Plaza.

Millennials, especially Hipsters, hate cars (or at least claim to).
Twenty two one bedroom apartments with 13 parking spaces? It would be great if folks moving in didn’t have cars but I highly doubt it.
