We’ve been having all kinds of fun this summer, from hanging with the hippies and the Avett Brothers at the Asheville Music Jamboree to jamming to the Smashing Pumpkins, checking out the Circus of Tiny Invisibility and catching the first ever Blue Ridge Roller Girls bout.
And it just keeps coming. Later this month, there’s a comedy festival and the big Bele Chere. But first, there’s this funkiness:
ABSFest at The Orange Peel, 7:30 p.m. on July 14. What is it? We cant’ say it better than their flier:
See twirling tassels
& mind-boggling contortion
Sweet-talkers
& glass-walkers
High-flying beauties
Dancers on wires
& nails up the nose!
The headliner is burlesque queen Princess Farhana. Other performers include local goddesses The Rebelles, glass-walker Mab, contortionist Bendy Lindsey, as well as dancers Baraka Mundi and a couple of other acts.
All this is followed by an after-party fire show by Unifire Theatre, live music in the Orange Peel, midway booths, and more performance. In short, the circus is coming to town.

Additionally – I beat a belly dancer at Hookah Joes in a "Dance Off" last year. How bout dem apples? And WHAT happened to Hookah’s, Ash – is he closing down or relocating?
All I have to say to this is: Shake it. Don’t break it. Took yo’ Mama 9 months to make it.
