My Beautiful Launderette

Share

One of the lonliest places to be on or near Valentine’s Day is a laundromat.

The one I visited today – this morning, actually – was filled with three or four very forlorn looking men.

They look lonely. They wash plaid shirts. They pump quarters into a video poker machine to pass the time. They stare at the washers and dryers.

I noticed myself picking up some old college day tricks. Like jumping on a dryer just as someone pulls the last sock out of it so that it’s still hot. Looking for leftover dryer sheets that still might have some use. Picking up lost change.

These people are loose change, lost change.
