Missing Ingles truck driver
In perhaps the most intriguing story of the day, Carolyn “Little Red” Ryan brought us the story of a local truck driver for Ingles who left on Monday headed for Georgia and hasn’t been heard from since.
Ryan said family, friends and police had been searching for the driver of truck #906 since Monday when he left the Ingles warehouse in Black Mountain. Searchers had even driven the same route to Gray, Ga., just south of Athens, where Richard Fox was headed with a load of groceries.
Fox of Fairview was driving a white Freightliner truck with Ingle’s scripted in red across it. Everyone said they’ll keep searching. How does a tractor trailer just disappear?
Chased with a tire iron
Short-timer Mary Judlicka had the most fun of any WLOSer on Tuesday – she got chased by a tire iron-wielding redneck in McDowell County.
Mary and her photog went to the home of a former Sunday school teacher charged with 35 counts of child molestation that allegedly happened in the 1970s. So Mary’s standing on the street in front of the guy’s house talking to his sister, who’s going on and on about how the charges are a pack-a-lies and it’ll all come out in court. Suddenly an old blue pickup truck comes barrelling down the road and screeches to a halt. Out jumps one pissed off redneck, with bad beard and ballcap, who angrily tells Mary, “If I see that house on TV tonight, I’m gonna sue your asses off.”
Mary says the guy is the son of the man charged with child molestation. We get a little bit more video of him looking pissed and yelling. The we cut back to Mary in her cozy little studio saying that what we didn’t see on video was the redneck pulling out a tire iron and chasing her and her photog back to their car. Now that would have been some great video, Mary!
More Michelle Gibson reaction
Russ “Beefcake” Bowen followed up his solid Monday reporting with more reaction to the not guilty verdict for Michelle Gibson, the woman who had been charged with second-degree murder in the death of her 8-year-old son, Devin.
Russ talked to one juror on camera, and claimed to have talked to several jurors. Russ said the jurors said they believed the death was an accident. They said the boy wasn’t locked in a trunk, but in the car with the window down, and they noted that Michelle came out to check on him. The jurors said they didn’t find any evidence that Michelle intended to kill her son, so they found her not guilty on all charges.
Russ also talked to the Jackson County prosecutor who blew the case. It was the assistant district attorney who argued the case, and he said he believes Gibson acted in reckless disregard for human life and should have gotten some sort of punishment. (The jury had the choice of finding Gibson guilty of the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.) We won’t be seeing that guy arguing any high profile cases anytime soon, will we?
South Kakalacki crash
In an absolutely useless waste of gas and breath, WLOSers sent Cherub Charu down to South Carolina Tuesday night so she could tell us at 11 p.m. that South Carolina’s lieutenant governor was injured. She didn’t have any detail at all, and her report lasted about 30 seconds. Meanwhile, the South Carolina television stations had already told us that and more at 10. Lame.
In other filler…
Jay Seltzerwater, who’s just biding his time until Bob Caldwell retires, filed a report about some VFW post veterans being “fighting mad” over the theft of computer records containing information on millions of vets… Lloyd “You’re no Jack Kennedy” Bentsen died…

if the guy doesn’t want to have his house on tv, he shouldn’t have it on a public roadway.
Please tell me Bob’s not retiring soon. The way he chuckles through the weather — punctuating each report with "But the weather can change any minute this time of year" regardless of what time of year it is — is a hoot. Jay Seltzer places stress on the oddest words in his reports, and Mike Cuevas has the most nasal pronunciation of "forecast" I’ve ever heard.
