Here’s the email going around from Asheville City Councilman Gordon Smith. Spread the word, and come to this meeting if you’re interested in helping out:
Hi all,
Will you help Asheville land the Google Fiber Initiative Your help will be vital to make Google Fiber a reality in Asheville. There are a lot of wheels in motion, and I’d like to fill all of you in. The deadline for applications is March 26th.
There is a strong Institutional Application being assembled by the City, EDC, ERC, and others that requires your help. Equally important is the Community Application and public expression. We need to come together and create an enthusiasm maelstrom that will be visible from coast to coast.
Tuesday, March 2nd – 8-10pm at The Dripolator. They’re staying open late just for this (and they have beer!). This is not a wide-open for-everybody meeting. It’s for buzzmakers, linkers, and creative leaders. There will be public meeting of different varieties in the very near future.
Why should Google Come To Asheville?
– Asheville is diverse and involved.
– Asheville is a community of innovation.
– Asheville is ready and accelerating
How will 1Gps change your home, your business, your culture, your education, your life?
Please forward this email to creative and tech leaders and who can help energize a community wide creative effort to bring Google to Asheville. I don’t have emails for Wendy Lou, Gary Charles, and others.
I’m lacking folks from the music and theater worlds. Little help?
Until Tuesday, please spread the word about the italicized text above. Individuals and community groups can submit community applications. While we don’t need to be in lockstep, some unity of message will be helpful in demonstrating our cohesion.
I hope all of you can come together Tuesday. Common Cause!
Gordon Smith
