The other weekend, Ashvegas met one of nation’s greatest presidents. Yup. Here’s the photographic evidence. Abe Lincoln was hangin’ out in front of the Carl Sandburg homesite down in Henderson County.
Anyway, Mr. President tipped me off to some big doins. The year 2009 is going to be a big one for Mr. Lincoln, because that year, he’ll mark his 200th birthday. The big celebrations will actually start in 2008, of course, just to get the most mileage out of it. There will be all kinds of events honoring Lincoln and his life – his famous debates will be recalled, his famous speech at Gettysburg will be marked again, and get this – the U.S. Mint is going to re-do the penny. The penny will still have Abe’s head on the front, but on the back, there will be little depictions of important Licoln events, kinda similar to what they’ve done with the quarter.
