Media Arts Project calling for grant proposals

The Media Arts Project in Ashvegas has put out a call for proposals from artists seeking small grants for their projects. Deadline to apply is March 1.

The money comes from the Daniel DeLaVergne Media Arts Advantage Fund. (DeLaVergne was an amazing kayaker who died last year and who was a gerat supporter of the arts.)

There’s a lot of information to digest, so follow the link if you’re interested. We’ll give you a taste:

The purpose of the fund is to provide support to media artists working in or based out of western North Carolina. Awards will be based on applicants’ artistic merit and the strength of their submitted proposal. The fund’s primary goal is to foster regional talent through much needed direct project funding. Successful projects will enhance the visibility and interest in all forms of media art, attract new talent to the region, and serve as a sustainable catalyst for the creative economy.

The selection of proposals is based on the following elements:
Submission of all required materials as described below by the deadline
Innovation and creativity relevant to media arts as described below
Ability to produce high quality work suitable for public presentation

The Media Arts Advantage Fund is intended to serve the greater interests of media arts and the region’s talented artists. Therefore while there are no specific categories applicants must adhere to, it should be noted that the Fund awards project-based activities. Proposals should lead to the completion of a high-quality work suitable for public presentation or distribution.

Projects may fit into, but are not limited to, the following categories. These categories are by no means proscriptive. They are simply meant to suggest and encourage a broad array of submissions:
Video & Film Productions
Animations & Mixed Digital Media
Live Performance Integrating Multimedia Technology
Generative Art & Gaming
Curatorial Efforts Presenting Media Art
Variable Media Installations
