Burial Beer is coming soon to Asheville’s South Slope, the in-transition area that will also soon be home to Admiral chef Elliott Moss‘ new Buxton Hill Barbecue, and Twin Leaf Brewery.
A one-barrel brewery and neighborhood taproom, Burial plans to open this spring.
The Local Beer Blog from Asheville’s David Ackley is on the scene, interviewing the owners and sharing the beers planned for year-round rotation:
- Pitchfork Saison
- Scythe Rye Pale Ale
- Hatchet North Carolina Lager
- Reaper Tripel (aged in oak)
- Hacksaw Dunkel
- Anvil Imperial Stout (brewed with coffee from Biltmore Coffee Traders)

Burial Beer Co. recently moved into their space at 40 Collier Avenue and are in the process of renovating the building and getting their federal and state licenses in order. Tim Gormley, who brings experience from Lazy Boy Brewing and Sound Brewery, will make mostly Belgian and German styles with the occasional American “flavor bomb.” He plans to use local ingredients whenever possible, including North Carolina malts from Asheville’s Riverbend Malt House.

French Broad already brews and bottles an Anvil Porter. Burial should consider this before naming their imperial stout. Especially if they ever plan on bottling it. Just a heads up.
I just got word that Burial will use a different, yet equally awesome, name for their Imperial Stout. Thanks for the heads up, Chris!
