Listeners are giving money to WCQS to get them to stop asking for money

For years – nay, decades – the folks at WCQS have held an annual spring fund drive to raise critical cash that funds the station. While necessary, the event was also an irritant to many listeners, who have their regular programming interrupted by the incessant beg-fest. The station’s hosts also don’t relish the repetitive task of asking people, over and over, for money.

So a few years ago, WCQS started holding a pre-fundraiser and promising to shave a day off the regular fund drive for every X amount of dollars raised. It’s a great strategy – essentially extend your fund-raiser by calling it a pre-fundraiser (or whatever) and ask people to give you money so they don’t have to listen to you beg for money.

This year, WCQS said that for every $28,000 raised early, it would cut a day from the traditional fundraiser. It’s goal is $250,000.

Listeners have responded, cutting a record four days from the fund drive. If you want to donate to WCQS, click here.

Beg on.

The UNCTV pledge drive ended a few days ago. The problem is they do their quarterly and they run 2-3 weeks. Enjoy the reprieve while you can.

Donate to Asheville FM instead. They won’t irritate you or interrupt their programming or put you to sleep
