Today as the UCI mountain bike world championships continued in Canberra, Australia, there was another positive sign of the USA’s resurgence. The women’s race, held at Stromlo Park under a blue sky, was yet another indication of it all.

USA Cycling’s Willow Koerber, Asheville, NC rode in a fine race to a third place in the women’s elite cross-country, taking a bronze medal—just 52 seconds behind the winner. This marks the first medal in mo’ biking since Alison Dunlap won gold in Vail in 2001.  The winner was Irina Kalentieva of Russia—who had a bronze medal in Beijing—grabbed the gold in 1:43.20.
