Kiss and do tell

Tony Kiss aka The Beer Guy over at the Asheville Citizen-Times has a new blog. The Beer Guy has been around, having covered entertainment in these parts for night unto 20 years or so. So it’ll be fun to keep an eye on his blog.

Here’s Kiss on the new Chan’s Chinese restaurant downtown (in the former Beanstreets location:

I might as well have taken the money and thrown it out onto the street on Broadway, or handed it to a passing wino. Yes, Chan’s is new and maybe it will get better, but when they’re charging that kind of dough, they need to have their act together from the start. Will we go back? Probably not.

Now that’s telling it like it tee-eye-is.

Here’s Kiss on the new Rocket Club, a new entertainment venue slated to open in West Ashvegas:

Will the Rocket Club ever head up, up and away? We think so. The only question is when. A lot of work and money has gone into this new club, which could become an anchor attraction for West Asheville. Opening a club takes a lot of work, not to mention a lot of permits and inspections. Lets hope these folks can get through that maze soon.

chan's HONKS! October 9, 2006 - 5:30 am

YES! Kiss is dead on with Chan’s. I was going to review it for my upcoming "what NOT to do on date night" post. It was one of THEEE most underwhelming meal I have ever eaten. Went there after Brewgrass with the urban fam – the waiter was a class-A asshole (man, if you hate your job, get a new one), the atmosphere was blah, & the food? I would have been better off with a Cup ‘o Noodles – Thai stylee. Hell, I’d prefer a Big Mac over what we ate – and we sampled quite a few dishes. The AC wasn’t working that day & the ass-waiter acted as though we were asking for the moon when we asked for refills, chopsticks – the USUAL fare. Even the bathrooms were ugly – save the cool mirror & sink… but that was just the laydees. Who knows about the men’s.

And the copious amounts of black lacquer?? Who the hell was the interior designer for this place? Apparently he/she is blind.

I’m all about second chances, but I doubt I’ll ever take a risk on Chan’s again.
