It’s the Power of Mum: Mumpower to run for Congress against Shuler

Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower has announced today that’s he’s running for congress against U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler. Finally, the Republicans have a candidate. There’s still no word from the guy Shuler beat, Charles Taylor.

Anyway, Mumpower’s announcement is no surprise to those of us who have watched Mumpower on his city council stage. Mumpower has been leading his own one-man fight against illegal immigrants and drug dealers for months. He’s been a mini speaking tour to local Republican groups.

So, at least we have a race. It should be a fun one. Mumpower has a knack for getting attention, and he knows how to come up with a good quote. But does anybody in the Western North Carolina hinterlands know who Mumpower is or what he stands for?

Meanwhile, Shuler’s gained a little more polish and experience. But he also has a voting record that can be attacked.
