We spotted this creature in the Ashvegas garden over the weekend. At first, we were sure this was a hummingbird. It was as big as a hummer. It’s wings moved as quickly as a hummer. And we’ve got a couple of hummers who regularly visit a feeder we’ve got set up in the garden.
But the creature didn’t really move as quickly and sharply as a hummingbird. So we snapped the shots shown here and went looking. We quickly found that the “insect that looks like a hummingbird,” which is what we searched on, looks to be a clearwing sphinx moth. A moth that sips nectar. Pretty cool.
