Hookah Joe’s is reopening in Asheville. The hookah joint, in the complex of bars on North French Broad Avenue that includes Club Remix, Metrosphere/Metropolis, closed down about a year or so ago. Hookah Joe’s owners say today’s a big day:

Today is Monday, April 15th a.k.a. “Tax Day” in America…do you know what you were doing 8 years ago on this date?? I know what is was doing, I was opening Hookah Joe’s for the very first time and introducing Asheville to the first, best, and only Hookah lounge they have ever had. Come out tonight and celebrate the reopening of Hookah Joe’s and our 8 year anniversary. Get a Hookah and I will give you the next for half price tonight!! There are a lot of places that have clearance bongs! 7pm-?
38 N. French Broad under Club Hairspray in our old spot…21+

Tony Kiss at the Asheville Citizen-Times reports:

The new Hookah Joe’s will be located in its former home at the downtown Club Hairspray complex, 38B N. French Broad Ave., McHugh said. The venue began in 2005 in the lower level of what is now the Thirsty Monk bar at the corner of of Coxe and Patton Avenues.

McHugh shuttered Hookah Joe’s in 2010 in the wake of anti-smoking regulations in Asheville. He remained in contact with Hairspray owner Loredana Hovard and has numerous conversations with the Buncombe County Health Department about how to reopen and be compliant with smoking regulations.

In the end, McHugh said he “decided to put my fighting the law on hold” and will serve complaint tobacco-free “teasha” inside the bar, and traditional “shisha” in the outdoor courtyard.

The new Hookah Joe’s will be open at 7 p.m. nightly and feature “chillout” tunes except on Tuesdays, when an open mic will be held and Thursdays when reggae is played.

Whoa. That owner sounds like a real ray of sunshine. If anybody has a hookah bar recommendation please do share it!

And oh yeah, how do you have an anniversary for a business that’s not even in business anymore? Don’t the anniversaries stop when the doors are closed? Maybe you should make that day a Memorial Day in stead.

Berry it’s funny to hear your 10 cents worth of knowledge. Might be better next time to get the whole story before you post things that make you look stupid. As for the anniversary of the lounge, it is the same date with or without the doors being open. BTW I guess you didn’t hear the news that Hookah Joe’s is reopening next month in it’s own spot so now there is no dealing with that s`it show at the Hairspray building. I am sure you have a nickel’s worth of more comments but don’t bother stopping by the new place, you will not be welcome.

Yeah this place wasn’t ever truly reopened. I went by there after mchugh was fired from his position at club remix as a hookah man. The bar always was and still is club remix. The former owner of hookah joes(mchugh) doesn’t make hookahs there or anywhere but his house at the present time. Mchugh gave you misleading information about a dissolved business that doesn’t exsist and hasn’t for years. Maybe you guys should publish a blurb correcting the bad info.
