Heath Shuler: #4 on list of most athletic Dems

Share

Here’s the story, from RealClearSports:

Heath Shuler went to Washington. Failed miserably. Left. And then decided to go back.

After finishing second for the 1993 Heisman Trophy at Tenneessee, the Redskins made him their first-round pick (third overall) in 1994. After a few disatorous years, Gus Frerotte eventually won over the starting QB job and Shuler was traded. In 2006, years after retiring from the NFL, he ran for and won a North Carolina congressional seat, completing his triumphant return to Washington — perhaps to the chagrin of some Redskin fans.

Still, in the Democratic Party, a Heisman runner-up and a subpar NFL career is more than enough to get you near the top 10 most athletic list — and actually gets you all the way up to No. 4.
