‘Bridging the Gap between Progressives and Conservatives – Framing your Message Matters’

Join us for the next Asheville Green Drinks Program at 6 p.m. July 18 when the topic will be “Bridging the Gap between Progressives and Conservatives: Framing your Message Matters.” Green Drinks is held at Posana Café, 1 Biltmore Ave., in downtown Asheville.

The discussion will be led by Amy Meier. Meier has been involved in the political framing community for 10 years, using methods inspired by George Lakoff, a cognitive linguist at UC Berkeley. She is the force behind CivilTongue.com, a blog that aims to increase understanding and promote ethical debate about the issues that impact Americans and the world.

Meier will take Green Drinks attendees through some framing strategies, psychology and language that might help us better communicate with audiences we don’t already have.

Panelists will include Asheville City Councilman Cecil Bothwell and Anna Jane Joyner, community organizer for the Western North Carolina Alliance.

For almost 30 years, the Western North Carolina Alliance has been a trusted community partner, marshaling grassroots support to keep our forests healthy, our air and water clean, and our communities vibrant. The Alliance and its chapters throughout Western NC unleash the power of citizens’ voices to protect the natural heritage of our region to help ensure that people and the environment can thrive.
