Goombay set to return to Asheville Aug. 27-29

Join your community as Goombay! celebrates the diversity that makes Asheville so unique! Festivities begin Friday, August 27th, from 12:00pm until 9:30pm on Friday, 12:00pm to 10:00pm on Saturday August 28th (Children’s African & Caribbean Village in the YMI’s Ray Auditorium open 11:00am – 6:00pm Saturday ONLY) and Sunday, August 29th begins with a worship service at 11:00am and ends with closing ceremonies at 6:00 pm. 

Music and performances to entertain the whole family, arts and crafts, food, drink, and most importantly, community will be in full-swing – you don’t want to miss it!

Saturday, August 28th is also Retro T-Shirt Day – so find your favorite shirt from Goombay!s past and wear it with pride. Bragging rights last all year long for those with the oldest shirts! Don’t have one? Then start your collection this year.

In conjunction with Goombay! festivities, check out the Youth Outreach Service and NFL Pep Rally, Saturday, August 28, 2010, 6:00 p.m., at St. James A.M.E. Church, 44 Hildebrand St., Asheville, NC, 28801, (828-253-5191). This side event will feature NFL Players Don Sasa (former Carolina Panther, Washington Redskins) and Percell Gaskin (Carolina Panthers) as well as Christian rap, Mime, poetry, dancing, singing and Autograph Signing. You can thank Rev. Brent La Prince Edwards for the great family-friendly activities when you stop by!
