WLOSers have been pimping the hell out of their new upcoming 6:30 p.m. newscast that will air on WMYA. Pat “Simple” Simon and Tallahassee Tammy Watford will anchor the news, which they’re pitching as “fresh news” for people who can’t get home in time to see the news at 6.
What, exactly, is “fresh” news? News that’s not stolen out of that day’s local daily newspaper or Web site? News that original and insightful? News that doesn’t sensationalize, that helps people make sense of the world? News that informs?
That would be fresh.
Is there really a tv market for another half-hour of news? We’ve got news in the morning, starting at what, 6 a.m.? We don’t know, we’re never up that early. There’s local news from noon until 1 p.m. There’s news from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There’s news from 11 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
And now there’s going to be “fresh news” from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
We can hardly wait.

Best Reporter – Russ; I know you’ll disagree, but I think John is a really good reporter when he’s doing straight news and not the usual pun crap; and Terri seems to be pretty good, too

Most Annoying – hard to narrow it down to one, but I’d say it’s got to be a tossup between Cuevas and Jay
Fattest Ego – Cuevas; I think you’ve bought into the Darcel reputation, as opposed to reality; she may not be the most humble, but she’s far from the biggest ego in that newsroom
Biggest Waste of time on TV – "13 minutes of nonstop news," soon to be followed by 30 minutes of "fresh" news from the NewsOne, Sinclair and CNN feeds that hasn’t been run on any of the other shows; both lagging far behind The Point

Early morning news starts at 5am,so we get a whole 2 hours of yuck then.
My question is,will their fresh news be just a rebroadcast of an earlier show?
I think it’s a shame that this mess is all we have in our mountains for TV news.
Time for some competition from somewhere please.
