Soldier arrested
WLOSers inexplicably buried the biggest story in the U.S. yesterday, a story with direct ties to Western North Carolina. At both the 6 and 11, WLOSers blew off the allegations against former soldier Steven D. Green, 21, who was arrested at his grandmother’s home in Marion on Friday and had a first court appearance in Charlotte on Monday.
Green was a soldier with the 101st Airborne before he was discharged for a “personality disorder,” according to wire reports. He was discharged before the allegations of the murder and rape of an Iraqi woman in Baghdad came to light. Three of the Iraqi woman’s family members were also killed, according to the charges.
So, who is this guy? What, if any, are his connections to WNC? What do local people think of the allegations and the arrest? Can we get anything here, people? Perhaps on Independence Day, nobody wants to talk about the darker price of freedom…

Fireworks stolen
WLOSers said thieves broke into an Old Fort town storage facility and stole about half the town’s fireworks. Some 250 explosives are missing, and police say they’re dangerous and should be handled by professionals. Wonder if WLOSers will follow-up on this and check to see if the show will go on…
