Share

There’s a brewery for sale in Western North Carolina, according to this post up at probrewer.com. The post says the brew house and tasting room are located in an “extremely desirable area,” which I read as “Asheville.”

The listing says there is more than 6,500 square feet of space. The listed price of $975,000 “includes all trade names, goodwill, FF&E, wholesale accounts and much much more,” according to the listing. Here’s the contact:

Not Twin Leaf. Not over my cold dead body.

It’s Altamont – we know an investor looking into it and was confirmed for him.

Pretty sure it has been determined by the local beer community/clubs that based on the square footage and some other evidence that it is indeed Altamont. I’ll bet anyone a beer or three on this! 😉 Cheers!

Yup, it’s Altamont.

That intent at non-disclosure was busted in record time.

I am the upper management owner issue at French Broad, and can assure you we’re not on the market for $975K. We’re holding out for $1,444,444.44 from ABInbev.

We tripled sales 2011-14, which ticks the ‘expand/progress’ box in my book, and we’re now strategizing what’s next in a landscape that’s been carpet-bombed with breweries.

Our owners have been with us for almost 20 years; we’ve never diluted their equity, we’ve never sought venture capital. We make good beer, you should drink some.

Ashevilleblog.com links to a C-T article about Altamont which states it is 6500 sq. ft…..

I’d pay $975K for French Broad. Altamont?, no.

If it is indeed French Broad, it would be the last domino to fall as of one of the truly small, ‘unchanged’ breweries from the original Asheville scene. I love it because it seems to be as big as it wants to be in terms of production and distribution, and is in a great little spot. I’ve played tons of music there over the years and it’s a nice little cornerstone of the old-school brewery scene. Lots of memories and friends have been made there through the years. The beers have changed a lot though… I do miss the Goldenrod Pilsener, the Lambics, and the Flander’s Abbey Style Ale. Still a solid brewery, especially the Wee Heavy-er.

I always thought French Broad was very underrated. One of my favorites, but never seemed to get a lot of notice when all these other breweries started to come on the scene.

I agree, very good beer and one of the ‘original’ Asheville breweries. I think they’ve always had upper management “owner” issues, which my be the biggest reason for their stagnation. (ie: the owners are hodge podge, and not much money goes into the brewery, but a lot comes out) hence, perhaps, a prime contender for a sale? It’s the ‘little engine that could’ of the Asheville brewing scene. Always known, always liked, but never progressing/expanding. It’s, in the past, been the breeding ground for other breweries. A lot of brewers in town got their start at French Broad. French Broad has seeded brewers to High Wire, Pisgah, Sierra Nevada, Memphis Brewing, etc…..

French Broad is a good guess.

“Once the restaurant side is fully operational, the brewery will boast 6,500 square feet.” From C-T after their announcement of buying Nona Mia.

So who might it be?

Um… it’s me! I can take a check.

Beherenow January 5, 2016 - 3:59 pm

It’s not French Broad

jtroop January 5, 2016 - 3:32 pm

Twin Leaf?

Vince January 5, 2016 - 4:07 pm

I thought Twin Leaf, too, but per the tax records it’s 11,520 square feet. Altamont just expanded into the Nona Mia space. So…

Mike January 5, 2016 - 3:29 pm

I’m guessing either Altamont or French Broad.

I think you will see more people selling their breweries for big money in coming years, or even months.
Business trends fade and, like all the big hotels we will soon have in Asheville, I bet many breweries will be closed, sold off, or turned into other businesses.
