(RALEIGH)–Renters in mobile home parks would get a chance to buy the park before the owner sells to someone else if a bill in the state House of Representatives is approved. The owner of a mobile home park must notify residents if the property is going to be sold and used for another purpose. Representative Susan Fisher of Asheville is sponsoring a bill that would require notification whenever the property is up for sell.
She says renters would then have a chance to pool their resources or get help from a non-profit to buy the land as a group. Fisher says the owner would have an incentive in a tax credit for selling to the renters. Opponents say very few renters would be able to take advantage of it and it puts a new burden on owners.
