Fine Arts League of the Carolinas suspends operations

Share

The Fine Arts League of the Carolinas has suspended its educational programming “due to unexpected circumstances.” The group, based in Asheville’s River Arts District, offered fine art lessons. Just a year ago, the organization and its executive director, Sheri Kahn, had big plans for growth and change.

Verve magazine reported the following last September regarding Kahn and her plans:

Though she has not yet nailed down funding, she’s working with a patron to secure an endowment for the school that would help her hire more faculty, buy equipment and house students—both in Asheville and in Italy. Still, even with a cash infusion, she and her board are battling a bit of a perception problem: In a digital age, who has the time or cash to study classical art?

Here’s the statement posted on the Fine Arts League’s website:

THE FINE ARTS LEAGUE IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING THEIR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING DUE TO UNEXPECTED CIRCUMSTANCES.

THESE ISSUES ARE CURRENTLY BEING ADDRESSED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF HAS BEEN PLACED ON LEAVE UNTIL THE APPROPRIATE STRUCTURE IS IN PLACE TO CONTINUE CLASSES.

GALLERY OPERATIONS WILL CONTINUE AS PLANNED. IF YOU ARE A STUDENT OF THE SCHOOL OR HAVE ENROLLED IN SUMMER PROGRAMS, WE DEEPLY REGRET ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY HAVE CA– — USED YOU.

IF YOU HAVE PAID A DEPOSIT OR CLASS FEE AND ARE DUE A REFUND, PLEASE CONTACT US. ALL QUESTIONS, COMMENTS OR REFUND REQUESTS MY BE DIRECTED VIA EMAIL TO:
