Ever wanted to see a nuclear plant up close and personal? The Hendersonville Environmental and Conservation Organization will take you there.
The group is sponsoring a field trip to the Oconee Nuclear Generating Plant in South Carolina, which the group says is the nuke plant closest to WNC. The group says nuclear energy is being touted as the energy of the future, and they want people to know the benefits and risks.
The trip will include an interactive tour and film, questions and answers with a Duke Energy representative and a brown bag picnic. The trip is scheduled for Saturday, October 20 and will be leaving Hendersonville at 10 a.m. The trip will be followed by a lecture by Mary Olson, billed an expert on nuclear power.
Reservations are required. Call the ECO office at (828) 692-0385 to reserve a space. The groups says bring your own lunch and a snack to share and money for gas. Go to eco-wnc.org for more info or call 692-0385.
