Family emergency pulls WLOS anchor Darcel Grimes away from on-air duties

Lots of folks have been asking me about the status of Darcel Grimes, the stalwart WLOS TV news anchor who has been delivering the news on the local ABC affiliate for more than 30 years. Darcel has been absent for several days during the critical February television sweeps period.

Here’s the official word from WLOS News Director Julie Fries:

Darcel’s mother suddenly became ill and passed away unexpectedly. Here at News 13, our thoughts are with Darcel and her family during this difficult time. She would like to thank everyone for their concern and prayers.
