I do a lot of bad-mouthing of the weather-guessers here at Ashvegas. But I’m here to give a shout-out to some weather peeps that I believe actually know something about keeping tabs on Mother Nature here in Western North Carolina.
The outfit is Ray’s Weather. It’s a great site that gives you weather guesses from guys who know best – meteorologists right here in WNC. Here’s a note I received from one of the Ray’s Weather guys, Eric:
Dr. Ray Russell founded the thing 6 or 7 years ago and expanded it to Asheville I think about three years ago now. He’s a computer science professor at App. State, so this is Boone-based. I joined in shortly after he started the venture and including me, we have 5 degreed meteorologists contributing to the website.
The positive thing about it is it’s all done locally. All of us have WNC ties, and three of us grew up in the local area (two of the six live here in AVL), so we do feel we’re able to provide a little bit more local insight since most forecasting outlets are anything but homegrown.
