Thank you to a reader who added more confirmation to a report Ashvegas had received that Franklin, over in Macon County, was the epicenter of a 2.6 magnitued earthquake earlier this week.
The poster offered this confirmation from the USGS Web site.
I haven’t heard a peep from anyone over there who might have felt even the slightest tremor. If you’re out that way, leave us a note.
Quakes do happen in the WNC mountains. There have been many reports over the years, and I’ll have to do my research, but there was a fairly decent sized shaker back in the 1950s or ’60s, I think.
Old Lou over at BREDL has been warning people for years that an earthquake in these mountains could crack open all these landfills we’ve got.
