Tommy, people have been calling Asheville "Ashvegas" for years. It started as a sarcastic bit, back when downtown Asheville was boarded up and the Fine Arts Theatre offered the best porn in town. Today, of course, things have changed. And now the tag "Ashvegas" grows more and more ironic with every added strip shopping mall, mountaintop million dollar mansion and Florida retiree.
Pardon me for asking, but where did people get the idea of adding the suffix -vegas to Asheville or Greenville (as in G-Vegas – yuck)?
wanted to inform you about a recent Warren Haynes sighting. I caught him performing on that Carson Daly late late show. He played solo guitar, and picked his way through a stellar acoustic version of Radiohead’s "Lucky" off their OK Computer release.
Now, Radiohead is my favourite (I’m contractually obligated to spell it like that when talking about them) band ever, so I was very intrigued by Asheville’s own performing THAT song rather than something from his own library or Gov’t Mule.
I wonder if anyone else saw this performance? I’ll have to look for it on YouTube or some such site.
