Dinner for the Rich

Dinner for the Rich – that’s what we call Earthfare, a home-grown Ashvegas organic grocery chain that’s just opened up shop in Chapel Thrill.

I remember when Dinner for the Earth (the precursor to Earthfare) opened up in some creaky warehouse space down on Broadway. Wow, we though. A place where you can buy hummus and babaganoush and organic peanut butter. We loved it. It was expensive as hell back then, but we knew it was good stuff.

Now Earthfare is located over in Westgate, and seems to be doing fine, although we’re not sure why the chain hasn’t expanded more aggressively. And while Earthfare has aged well and kept up, Greenlife Grocery over on Merrimon threatens to make Earthfare look like yesterday’s news.

Greenlife is crazy busy every day, and their store, while it feels a bit cramped, has everything you’d want and more in an organic grocery.

We’ll stick with Dinner for the Rich, even though one plastic bag of cereal, toothpaste and some apples grown in horseshit costs $50. We know it’s good for us.
