Darcel Grimes opens up for Verve magazine

Share

Verve magazine has a revealing story this month about Darcel Grimes, the long-time WLOS-TV reporter who leads a pretty private life for having such a public job in our small town.

I’ve often playfully prodded Grimes with the nickname Diva Darcel, but it’s clear in the story that Darcel is a warm, respected presence among her television news peers and in the community. In the Verve profile, we learn that Darcel hates cooking, sometimes trades fancy high heels for slippers while sitting at the news desk, and will duck into a dressing room for some jumping jacks if she’s feeling a little too nervous. She also talks about the difficulties she’s faced as a black woman in the working world and dealing with race issues in news coverage.

Check out November Verve with Darcel on the cover, and take a peek at this old clip of Darcel doing what she does best – reading us the news.

Jason….Having worked with Darcel for 5 years, I can tell you that she was not the monster people make her out to be. She has a great sense of humor and folks in the building had no problems with her that I could tell.
