Could sports reporting for the Citizen-Times and the Greenville News be combined?

Share

I’m not asking that question, but someone over at Gannett Blog is:

Does anyone know what they’re talking about in Greenville, holding meetings about consolidating sports reporting with Asheville, 50 miles away? Greenville has been printing the Asheville C-Times since Jan. 4 and Asheville’s press plant was closed, 60 people layed off.

So, would it be feasible? Doesn’t seem so, especially with the local emphasis on high school sports.

I should also clarify in my previous comment that I meant to also say I could see the consolidation happen across the board, not just to sports. Geez, I really gotta get some sleep 🙂

Oops, I mean "feasible" instead of "feasibly." That’s what happens when your 4-month-old likes to wake up at 5 a.m. …

I think it’s totally feasible. Stupid, but feasibly. I could see them merge, and then Asheville becomes a "bureau" of the Greenville News. Folks in the Asheville "bureau" could still assume most of the ad sales, storywriting, photography and editing duties, but perhaps Greenville takes over layout duties. So it could still be a separate paper but run by significantly less people.

Just my thinking on it.

Who says they are going to have High School Sports in Asheville after all the changes get implemented?
