Asheville’s newest entertainment venue, City Billiards, is planning a soft opening sometime this week. I don’t know when, so in fact it may have already happened. I got a sneak peak inside recently, and can tell you it appears to be a first-class operation all the way.
The open space inside has original wooden floors, an old tin roof that’s been painted over, and nine billiard tables. Six are 8-foot tables. Three are 9-foot tables. The back bar is absolutely beautiful – old, refinished wood and a giant mirror that used to be installed at Old Europe back when Old Europe was located on Battery Park Ave. City Billiards also has a small kitchen.
The City Billiards ambience is a little upscale and more adult, as opposed to the youthful Asheville Arcade with its flashy video games right next door on College Street.
That’s about it for now. More as it comes.
