Citizen-Times: Asheville Tourist baseball pitchers charged with rape


The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that two Asheville Tourist baseball players have been charged with rape:

Michael Ryan Mason (bottom photo) and Jesse Meaux (top photo) were arrested on two counts of first-degree rape and two counts of a first-degree sexual offense. Both players have been suspended.

The Colorado Rockies, the Major League Baseball parent club of the Tourists, issued a statement about the case Thursday evening:

“The Colorado Rockies and their affiliate, the Asheville Tourists, are aware of the arrests and the very serious allegations made against two players, Michael Mason and Jesse Meaux,” the statement said. “Each organization is shocked and deeply concerned about the allegations. At this time, the players have been suspended as the investigation and legal process continue.

The story goes on to say that the wo 23-year-old relief pitchers allegedly raped a woman early Saturday at their apartment on Ascot Point Circle.
