Happy weekend! Here’s a quick video look some of what’s happening, including CiderFest at Salvage Station, a hurricane relief concert hosted by Ingles and Joe Lasher Jr., and much more.
Thursday
-The Astronomy Club of Asheville holds its monthly meeting, free and open to the public. The topic this time? “Venus: Earth’s Evil Twin.” Starts at 7 pm at the UNCA Reuter Center.
-Slice of Life Open Mic Comedy at Pulp will be hosted by Justin Blackburn this time around. $5, and comics get in free. 8 pm.
Friday
-Ingles and local musician Joe Lasher Jr. team up for a hurricane relief concert from 6-7 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Asheville. Proceeds go to benefit victims of recent hurricanes in Houston, Florida and Puerto Rico.
-Horse + Hero gallery in downtown Asheville will celebrate the opening of a one-week pop-up show, Hey Asheville, featuring work from Red Truck Gallery in New Orleans from 6-9 p.m. The artist reception includes Mike Shine, Bryan Cunningham, Bunny Cunningham, Molly McGuire, John Whipple, VHS Girl, Steve Moseley, Ida Floreak, Chris Roberts-Antieau, Jason Borders, Mike Egan, Justin Hager, Butch Anthony,Mark Rogers and former Asheville artist Gabriel Shaffer, who moved to New Orleans and is now an owner of Red Truck.
-Ritual Knife: New Works of Justine Briggs and Zach Briggs opens at Satellite Gallery, and it’s an exhibition that adopts the “lens of occult fantasy” and features “deified mangods in states of psychedelic ecstasy and blasted landscapes drained by malevolent vampiric forces,” according to Satellite Gallery.
Friday and Saturday

-The Marcus King Band Family Reunion brings family and friends together at Pisgah Brewing this Friday and Saturday, with plenty of special guests and two sets from Marcus King.

Saturday

-The NC CiderFest is now sold out, but if you are one of the lucky folks who got a ticket, you can expect samples of area ciders, plus treats, crafts, and other wares out at the Salvage Station this Saturday.
The Bringing it Home Conference will go from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Self-Help Asheville, 34 Wall St. in downtown. This year’s theme is “Connecting the Dots : Working Together for a Strong, Equitable Local Economy” with keynote by Deena Hayes-Greene, Managing Director, Racial Equity Institute. Enjoy performances by Word on the Street students, panels of African American, Latinx and other business owners of color and participate in discussion groups on critical issues facing our community’s and region’s economic progress. The event is free, but you need to reserve a spot.

-MARK TIME + Revolve Sound Eight at Revolve Gallery (at the RAMP studios) brings seven artists together, along with live music from the Jacob Wick Trio featuring Shane Parish and Ryan Oslance. Free show; exhibition opens at 7 pm; two music sets begin at 8.
