Press release here from People Advocating Real Conservancy:
Don’t Miss the Annual Swift Watch This Saturday night! Come join us for the Annual Chimney Swift Watch this Friday night, October 7th. We’re meeting downtown on the third floor of the Civic Center Parking Deck, around 7PM Friday night. From there, we’ll watch the birds circle and then go into the Tyler Building chimney that sits directly behind the parking deck at the corner of Walnut and Rankin. This chimney is the lowest one that the birds use. It’s also very close to our viewing spot on the 3rd level of the parking deck, so our swift watch should be wonderful!Watch thousands of swifts swirl in striking patterns every evening at dusk, circling together before they drop down into their chimney for the night. It’s amazing to see, and kids love it. Bring the whole family! These birds eat mosquitos and other insects as they fly all day, never perching. They should be here for about another week or two. Their numbers will increase daily until they leave together on their long migration to Peru, usually around October 5th-15th.
