So, I have some exciting news.
I’ve been asked to host, and organize, a dinner at the James Beard House in NYC on Sunday October 20th. It will be an all-star cast of chefs to cook for the upcoming James Beard Food Conference (10/21-10/22).
The participating chefs are:

Emily Luchetti – Waterbar & Farallon Restaurants
Ben Hall – Russell Street Restaurant
Evan Hanczor – Parish Hall & Egg Restaurants
Hari Pulapaka – Cress Restaurant
I will be organizing this group of chefs to create a dinner to commence the start of the upcoming JBF Food Conference. Each chef will be showcasing their own distinctive specialities, while collaborating with one another for an eventful evening of food and wine in the historic James Beard House in New York city. It’s an exciting opportunity to showcase Asheville in front of the leaders of our food culture here in the US.The James Beard Foundation is a New York based national professional non-profit organization named in honor of James Beard. The foundation serves to promote the culinary arts by honoring chefs, wine professionals, journalists, and cookbook authors at at annual award ceremonies and providing scholarships and educational opportunities to chefs.
The James Beard Foundations’s mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor America’s diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire.

So, the people in NYC who are able to attend this dinner are supposed to feel guilty about being able to afford this?
I am happy that one of our local chefs is being honored by participating.

Yet people are lining up to pay $150 or more for one meal. What a great country.
Not that the problem is solved, by any means, but just FYI this article is a little outdated . . . DHHS has found enough money to provide WIC benefits through the end of October before having to stop distribution.
Yep. It’s a great country. Congrats to our local chef and all who attend this function. I raised 4 kids and got them through college. That was MY responsibility. I don’t want to raise and provide for yours. If you can’t afford to feed your kids, for God’s sake, stop breeding.
