Carolina Runner blog: Two full marathons come to Asheville in 2013

The Asheville Citizen-Times will add a full marathon to its half-marathon event in 2013, and a new marathon event is coming to the Biltmore Estate in spring.

Here’s what we know thus far:

Run in America’s largest backyard! Coming to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC on March 3, 2013 — More Info Coming June 1st, 2012

This 26.2 miles race takes place on paved and dirt roads including running in front of the Biltmore house, by the lagoon and through vineyards on the west side of the estate. The breath-taking marathon course is gently rolling to flat and will be memorable, enjoyable and a well-supported marathon experience. More information will be available online beginning June 1st at ashevillemarathon.com and online registration at imathlete.com

This nationally recognized, Inaugural marathon will be brought to Asheville’s Biltmore Estate on March 3, 2013. More details and online registration will be available on June 1st, 2012.

Registration for the Biltmore Estate marathon, called the Asheville Marathon, opened on July 15. It will offer cash prizes of $1000, $750 and $500 to its top three finishers.

In the Asheville Marathon, held on the grounds at Biltmore Estate, runners will explore 26.2 miles through America’s largest backyard. Inaugural Asheville Marathoners will wind through leafy hardwood forest, crayon-hued meadows, spring bloom-crackling gardens, and freshly cut views of the estate on Sunday, March 3rd, 2013. This is the first-ever race of its kind to come to Asheville, North Carolina.
